What a room kit is

A complete heating system for one room, boxed and ready.

Most heating products leave you with a shopping list. A ThermaSkirt room kit doesn't. Each kit is sized by room and heat demand and contains every part you need to replace your radiator and your skirting board in one go: the skirting lengths themselves, the internal and external corners, the feed and return set with its TRV and lockshield valve, the brackets, the reflective backing foil, the top gasket and a spares kit with O-rings, silicone grease and tools.

It connects to your existing flow and return pipework exactly like a radiator, so a confident DIYer can fit a room in a day, or any plumber can do it for you. If your room is an unusual shape or sits between two kit sizes, we make every profile to measure too, and a free quote will size it precisely from a heat-loss calculation.

In every kit
  • Pre-cut ThermaSkirt skirting lengths
  • Internal (and external) 90° corner kits
  • Universal feed and return set with TRV and lockshield
  • Wall brackets, reflective backing foil and top gasket
  • In-line connectors on the larger kits
  • Installation and spares kit: O-rings, grease, adhesive, tools
The range

Two profiles, four sizes.

Choose the standard BM2 profile or the high-output BM3, then the size that matches your room. Each kit shows its heat output on a boiler and on a heat pump, exactly what's in the box, and the price. Tap a profile to compare.

Deco BM2 (114mm). Our standard 114mm profile. The right choice for most rooms on a boiler, and for bedrooms and upper floors in well-insulated homes.

Outputs are indicative, based on the full skirting run at typical flow temperatures. Boiler figures assume a 75/65°C flow/return; heat pump figures are at a low 35–45°C flow. Kits are supplied in Cricket White (RAL 9010). Made-to-measure lengths, other RAL colours and torus or ovolo top cappings are available to order. If your room sits between two sizes, a free quote will size it exactly from a heat-loss calculation.

BSRIA tested

Independently tested to BS EN 442-1, with less than 1°C temperature variance measured across the room.

Not sure which kit?

A kit is a great starting point. A quote makes it exact.

The kits are sized to typical UK rooms, so they suit most homes straight off the shelf. But the only way to be certain is a heat-loss calculation for your actual room. Send us a floorplan or a rough sketch and we'll tell you the exact profile, the metres you need, the corners and the price, free and with no obligation.

BM2 or BM3?

BM2 suits most rooms on a boiler. Choose BM3 on a heat pump, on ground floors, or wherever heat loss is high.

Which size?

Count the walls you want to heat. Mini covers one, Small two, Medium three, Large four, with a metre allowance for corners.

Odd-shaped room?

Bay windows, long walls and non-90° corners are all fine. We make to measure and supply flexible connectors.

Rather not DIY?

Our UK-wide network of 120+ registered installers can fit it for you, including the boiler or heat pump side.

Room kit FAQs

Questions about the kits

What's actually included in a room kit?
Everything you need to heat the room and nothing you don't. Each kit contains the pre-cut ThermaSkirt skirting lengths, the internal (and on larger kits, external) 90° corner kits, a Universal Feed & Return Kit with a TRV valve and lockshield valve, the wall brackets, reflective backing foil and top gasket, in-line connectors where a wall is longer than a single length, and an Installation & Spares Kit with spare O-rings, silicone grease, gasket adhesive and the small tools you need. The only things you supply are the pipework to the room and a chop saw to cut the lengths to your walls.
Which size kit do I need?
The kits are sized by the run of skirting they cover, which roughly maps to the number of walls in a room. Mini gives you 4.5m (about one wall), Small 7.5m (two walls), Medium 12m (three walls) and Large 16.5m (four walls), each with an allowance for corners. As a rule of thumb, pick the kit that covers the perimeter you want heated. If your room falls between two sizes, or you want to be precise, upload a sketch for a free heat-loss calculation and we'll confirm the exact metres before you buy.
Should I choose the BM2 or BM3 profile?
BM2 is the standard 114mm profile and is the right choice for most rooms running on a boiler, and for bedrooms and upper floors in well-insulated homes. BM3 is the taller 170mm profile and delivers around 50% more heat per metre. Choose BM3 when you're on a heat pump (where flow temperatures are low), on ground floors, or in any room with high heat loss such as one with large areas of glazing. If you're unsure, our design team will recommend the profile against your heat-loss figures.
Does it actually give out enough heat?
Yes. This is the most common question we receive. Because ThermaSkirt replaces the skirting board around the entire perimeter of your room, the total surface area of the aluminium is often significantly larger than the steel surface area of the single radiator it replaced. By distributing that heat across 12 to 15 linear metres, it effortlessly achieves the same total kW output as a massive Type 22 radiator, verified by independent BSRIA testing.
Will it work with a heat pump?
Yes. It's built for low-temperature systems. The large surface area means it keeps around 48% of its output at dT20, nearly double what a typical radiator manages, so you don't need oversized panels on your walls. The high-output BM3 kit is usually the better choice on a heat pump, as it delivers more heat per metre at the low 35 to 45°C flow temperatures heat pumps run at.
Is it a DIY job?
It certainly can be. Around 70% of homeowners fit ThermaSkirt themselves using our video guides, PDF instructions and colour-coded cutting sheets. If you're not happy doing the plumbing side, get a plumber to run your flow and return pipes into the room and do the rest yourself. It's more involved than swapping a radiator, but simpler than fitting timber skirting, as there's no mitring, scribing or filling.
How long does installation take?
A typical room can be completed in half a day by a qualified installer, or a day by most DIYers. A full house install usually takes 2 to 3 days depending on the number of rooms.
What if my room is bigger than the Large kit, or an unusual shape?
No problem. For walls longer than a single 4.5m length, in-line connectors join lengths end to end with a neat cover over the joint (the Medium and Large kits already include these). Bay windows, curved walls and non-90° corners are all catered for with flexible connectors and made-to-measure lengths. For bigger or more complex rooms, a free quote is the best route: we'll plot the exact lengths, corners and connectors your room needs.
What colours is it available in?
Kits are supplied pre-finished in a tough double epoxy powder coat in Cricket White (RAL 9010), which suits most homes as-is. Vintage Ivory (RAL 1013) is also stocked, and Carbon Black (RAL 9011), Anthracite Grey (RAL 7016) and any other RAL colour are available to order. You can also key the factory finish lightly and overpaint it in any high-quality trim paint to match your décor.
Can I just do one room to start with?
Absolutely. A room kit is designed for exactly that. ThermaSkirt coexists with your existing radiators and towel rails on the same heating circuit, so many homeowners start with the room where wall space matters most, then add more rooms over time.
Does fitting it myself void the warranty?
No. DiscreteHeat maintains the manufacturing warranty on the aluminium profiles and components regardless of who installs them. We can't warranty the installation itself, such as the standard of finish or damage caused by not following the instructions, but the 10-year product warranty stands whether you fit it or a registered installer does.
