Keeping your conservatory cosy

Conservatories are a wonderful and inviting part of any house. Their open atmosphere and naturally illuminated interiors beckon guests in with a warm ambience and relaxing feel. A great conservatory is elegant and fits naturally with the rest of the home. Usually this means matching the lines and design of the conservatory to the rest of the property and outfitting it with gorgeous conservatory furniture.

Of course, decorating your conservatory depends on several factors, not the least of which being its function. Most serve as relaxing rooms to unwind in, but some may be pool houses or even kitchens. Finally, after investing a substantial amount of money into your conservatory, you’ll certainly want to make use of it as often as possible. Conservatories can be difficult to heat in colder months, but there are several ways to maximize efficiency and keep a nice warm, cosy feel. Whatever its use may be, there are several tips you can follow to make the most of your conservatory space.

Lighting

Light is perhaps the most important aspect of any conservatory. Since conservatories are mostly made up of transparent windows and doors, ample sunlight should flow in naturally. However, some artificial lighting is necessary for evenings. However, keep the light low and try to mirror the feel of the outdoors so that the atmosphere is cosy, natural, and not too artificial.

Furniture

Rattan is certainly the most common type of furniture for conservatories. The wooden feel of rattan fits perfectly with the natural identity of gorgeous conservatory furniture. Traditionally, conservatories are a sort of transitional space between the indoors and outdoors, allowing guests to enjoy the outside atmosphere while technically remaining inside. Rattan furniture allows comfortable cushions to blend nicely with the authentic feel of its natural woven strands.

Plants

Every great conservatory needs great plant life and vegetation. Sure, the usual garden flowers are beautiful, but lush greenery can really set your conservatory apart and create a wonderfully authentic environment. Try out some larger plants too! Potted trees can work quite well if used appropriately. The abundant plant life will create a charming garden aura for your conservatory that brings guests closer to the outdoors.

Climate control

During the summer months, you won’t have any problem keeping your conservatory cosy. With so many windows, light and heat will flood the room, making it a wonderful space to spend quality time in. However, during colder months it can be especially difficult to maintain a suitable temperature inside a conservatory due to the many glass surfaces. Fortunately, there are some solutions.

First, make sure that your windows and doors are properly insulated. This is especially important, given that most of the conservatory will consist of windows that allow heat to easily escape. You also may want to consider investing in high quality glass. Radiators are certainly one option, but they often detract from the natural feel and overall aesthetic beauty of the room. ThermaSkirt is a great alternative to traditional radiators. It replaces your skirting boards with hidden heating elements, hiding the unsightly mess that radiators tend to be.
