"Falcon Rural Housing Ltd is a Registered Provider of Affordable Housing (Housing Association) and we were keen to find a solar hot water product that was efficient, cost effective for our budget and simple for our residents to use. As the very nature of our name suggests our properties are situated in very rural areas and the housing scheme we chose to first provide with Solar Hot Water was a new build housing development in Exford, which is situated in the heart of Exmoor National Park. Here was a great place to test solar products as it gets the hardest of the weather and is situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty.
We held a “beauty contest” of solar hot water suppliers and the product that stood out for us most was the ThermTwin type. Not only was it the cheapest system to purchase but it was the most innovative, simple and effective. No mains electricity is required to power the pump as it is fully self sufficient – therefore costing the resident nothing to run and provides them with only benefits. It was also simple for the residents to use – no complicated control panels to master or fiddle with and in addition they were very easy to install.
The shown solar panels were fitted in December 2009 and have worked as efficiently and without incident as the day they were first fitted. These are beyond a doubt the best investment we have made for our residents and we are now embarking on a project to retro-fit more on our existing stock of Affordable Housing units to ensure that as many of our residents as possible can benefit from solar hot water. Whilst Solar Twin systems are cheaper than other solar panels, they do not lack in quality or performance and we, and our residents are thrilled with them.
