David & Sigal’s beautiful high spec new home in Hawthorne East almost ended in disaster.

David & Sigal’s beautiful high spec new home in Hawthorne East almost ended in disaster.

Dr Sigal Jacobson first came across the ThermaSkirt product when she visited the Herald Sun Home Show at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre in August 2014.

Sigal recalls...
 "“When I first saw the product at the home show I was very excited. We were half way through building our new home which was to have traditional panel radiators installed upstairs. We had chosen hydronic heating for our home as we wanted the comfort and efficiency that it offers, however I have never liked the look of the traditional wall hung panel. They are so ugly! The ThermaSkirt product offered me a much more discrete, stylish solution so we cancelled the order for the panels and contracted ThermaSkirt Australia to finish the heating for our home.”

The home had been designed with hydronic in-slab heating on the ground floor and traditional wall hung panels for the first floor. ThermaSkirt Australia took over the contract to provide the hydronic heating for the home with the ground floor in-slab heating already installed and the pipework run for the panel radiators by the previous contractors. The original brief was to make the required alterations to the existing system so that ThermaSkirt could be installed instead of the panel radiators.

The week before ThermaSkirt Australia were due to start work on the property they received a call from the builder asking them to attend site to inspect the existing ground floor slab. It turned out that the flooring contractor had hit the hydronic heating coils whist preparing the floor slab.

These coils should have been buried a minimum of 50mm below the top of the slab. Either the coils had been installed incorrectly or the builder had not poured enough concrete during the poor. Either way the in-slab heating system was now un‐usable and an alternative solution had to be found.

Fortunately for Sigal and David they now had an alternative discrete heating option, and that was to install ThermaSkirt on the ground floor to replace the now un‐usable in‐slab heating.

 “We were devastated when we first learned about the issue with the in‐slab heating! When we designed our home we wanted modern open plan spaces with clean lines and the only option for us was to have underfloor heating. We were so lucky that we had found the ThermaSkirt product and were already going to install this upstairs in our home. It would have been really upsetting for us to have had to live with ugly wall hung panels in our main living spaces. It would have been a constant reminder of the disaster with the underfloor heating.”

Sigal and David are extremely happy with the end result as they now have the advantages of the ThermaSkirt system throughout the whole house – fast response times, low water content & high efficiency irrespective of floor coverings.

ThermaSkirt Australia’s Managing Director Stephen James explains;
 “Not only is ThermaSkirt one of the most stylish and discrete forms of heating but it has also been proven in independent testing in Europe to be the most efficient form of heating. In a report published by KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden it was found that the heat transfer ability of ThermaSkirt was 50% higher than that of panel radiators.”

With over 20,000 systems installed in the UK alone and 13 Countries worldwide now being distributed to, ThermaSkirt is fast becoming the heating system of choice around the world.

Work began on installing Sigal and David’s ThermaSkirt system in November and was completed in December 2014.

Despite coming into the build process at a very late stage the end results have been spectacular. The home now has a state of the art, stylish and discrete hydronic heating system that will save them money for years to come.

Dr. Sigal Jacobson;
 “It’s absolutely brilliant, I cannot tell you how impressed we are with it. We’ve had lots of friends and family visit our new home since we moved in and they all love it. We were also very impressed with the professionalism of the staff and installers at ThermaSkirt Australia, they did a very professional job and should be proud of the outcome.”

Stephen James from ThermaSkirt Australia concludes;
 “We were very pleased to get the opportunity to work with Sigal and David on their impressive new home. We are also happy that the end outcome for them was a great one and that they now have a beautiful comfortable home to live in.”
